The Rejection of the Shepherd
Introduction
In this session, Zechariah 11:1-17 describes God’s judgment on Israel through the imagery of devastated lands (the cedars of Lebanon, the oaks of Bashan, and the thickets of the Jordan) and failed shepherds, foreshadowing the rejection of the Messiah. We contrast the rejection of corrupt Israel’s shepherds and the rejection of Christ, the good shepherd. The session shows judgment on bad leadership. God holds leaders accountable for neglecting and exploiting His people.
