Introduction
In this session, Zechariah 7: 1-14 we will focus on understanding the first and second messages God gave the people of Bethel who had fasted for 70 years of exile. The session will help us to understand an example of wrong fasting, the cost of wrong fasting, an example of true fasting and its benefit as seen in Isaiah 58: 1-14. God punishes disobedience but rewards obedience

Connecting
- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.

Comprehending
- Read Zechariah 7: 1-3. Identify the question the people of Bethel were asking the lord about? Who did they send to represent them? How do you normally speak to God today?
- Read Zechariah 7: 4-7. What was the lord’s answer to the people’s question about fasting and mourning? What is revealed about fasting and morning done by these people? Why were they fasting or feasting?
- Read Isaiah 58: 1-14. What is true fasting? What are the benefits of doing true fasting?
- Read Zechariah 7: 8-14. What was God’s word of advice to these people instead of their fasting? Why did the people of God refuse to listen to God? What did God do because of their disobedience?
