John’s vision of Jesus the Glorified, Reigning Priest
Introduction
In this session, Revelation Chapter 1: 9-20, we focus on understanding the revelation from Jesus as a risen, glorified, and reigning priest, a picture John had not known before, except for a preview at the mountain of transfiguration. Jesus the reigning priest told John to write the prophesy he had saw in three dimension, namely: the thing which had already taken place, meaning, the death, Resurrection and ascension of the glorified Jesus Christ, then the things that were happening to his bride, the church and the things which would soon take place both in heaven and on earth. Rev 1:19.

John’s vision of Jesus the Glorified, Reigning Priest
Revelation 1: 9-20
Audio Summary
Revelation 1:9-20
- Context:
- John, exiled on Patmos, receives a vision of the glorified Jesus amidst heresies denying His incarnation, using Luke 15 brothers to reflect Jews/Gentiles in a persecuted church.
- Revelation unveils past (Jesus’ death, resurrection), present (church’s trials), and future (His return) to strengthen believers.
- John’s Vision of Christ (Revelation 1:9-16):
- John, suffering for Jesus’ testimony, worships alone on the Lord’s Day and hears a trumpet-like voice (v. 9-10); he sees Jesus among seven lampstands (churches), robed as a priest with white hair, fiery eyes, bronze feet, a thundering voice, holding seven stars (church angels), a sword from His mouth, and a sun-like face (v. 11-16).
- Mercy reveals Jesus’ glory to inspire endurance.
- Jesus’ Reassurance and Command (Revelation 1:17-20):
- Overwhelmed, John falls as dead; Jesus, the eternal First and Last, who died and lives forever, comforts him, holding keys of death and Hades (v. 17-18).
- Jesus commands John to write past, present, and future events; the seven stars are angels of the churches, and lampstands are the churches (v. 19-20).
- Mercy empowers John to share the vision.
- Application:
- Worship Jesus, the glorified Priest, even in isolation or persecution; trust His eternal victory over death and heed His call to proclaim truth—mercy sustains faith in His reign.
