Self-Examination, Consequences, and Deliverance
Introduction
In this session, Lamentations 3: 40-66 emphasizes balancing lament with self-examination and repentance. Prophet Jeremiah openly recognizes the people’s transgressions and honestly considers the consequences of their rebellion before turning to God in prayer, asking for deliverance, vindication, and justice against his enemies.

- Read Lamentations 3:40-42. What does it mean to “examine and test our ways, and let us return to the LORD” in this verse? How can we apply this in our lives today?
- Read Lamentations 3:43-54; the author revisits the imagery of weeping and deep sorrow. Why is it okay to grieve the consequences of sin and brokenness in our world?
- Read Lamentations 3:55-66. The author cries out for God to witness his suffering and bring justice. How do we balance praying for justice with showing grace and forgiveness?
