A Gathering at Ahava Canal
Introduction
In this session, we focus on Ezra 8:15-36, the gathering that took place by the Ahava canal before Ezra and the team returned to Jerusalem. We will understand the importance of numbering the travel companion, of engaging in a spiritual fast and of entrusting responsibility to leaders before traveling

- Appreciated the hand of God being with his people in their travel
- Understood the place of fasting, numbering, and stewardship of resources in the church fellowship

- Stewardship
Group Study Time
Ezra 8: 15-36
Connecting
- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.
Comprehending
- Read Ezra 8:15-20. What happened at the Ahava Canal when Ezra camped there for three days? What did he discover? How did he resolve this issue? Why did the Levites (church workers) fail to return from captivity? What does this reveal about spiritual leaders emerging from captivity?
- Read 8: 21-23, 31-32. What is fasting? What types of fasting do you know? Why do we fast? Why did Ezra proclaim a fast for three days before the trip?
- Read Ezra 8: 24-36. Describe the third thing that happened by the Ahava canal? How was the responsibility tested?
- Explain what you understand by stewardship of resources, i.e., of money, things, of time, of relationships, and of spiritual things?
