Introduction
In this session on Daniel 4:1-18, we focus on how King Nebuchadnezzar shares a testimony with his entire kingdom about the miraculous signs of the Most High God. He recounts a terrifying dream about a massive, fruitful tree that an angel orders to be chopped down, leaving only a stump bound with iron and bronze. This dream has a double reference, to Daniel’s time and to the end-times fulfillment.
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- Understood how God uses warnings to get our attention before judgment.
- Identified the symbols in the king’s dream and their spiritual significance.
- A dream with end-time significance.
Outline

- Trust in the Lord and lean not on our understanding
- The king’s dream and its spiritual significance.
Group Study Time
Daniel 4: 1-18
Connecting
- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.
Comprehending
- Read Daniel 4:1–3. What did the king say about God? Do you think he was born again? Discuss the difference between knowing God and knowing only his deeds. Why do you think Nebuchadnezzar started his story by praising God before even explaining what happened to him? How does Proverbs 3:5 compare with Nebuchadnezzar’s sharing?
- Read Daniel 4:4-9. What did the king reveal about his dream and the circumstances surrounding it? What did he say about Daniel the NextGen? How much of this could be said about today’s NextGen in politics or in office work?
- Read Daniel 4:10–12. The tree was visible to the ends of the earth and provided for everyone. What does this reveal about the extent of the king’s power and responsibility?
- Read Daniel 4:14–18. What is revealed about the interpretation of the dream? Discuss why the tree changed from “it” to “Him”? Daniel 4:15–18. The holy messenger ordered the tree to be cut down but left the stump. What does the “stump” signify about God’s justice mixed with mercy?
