The Greatness of Mordecai
Introduction
In this session, Esther 10:1-3, we examine the enduring influence of Mordecai’s leadership and the peace achieved for the Jewish community. Following the dramatic turn of events in chapters 7-9, where Haman was executed, and the Jews were rescued, Chapter 10 acts as a summary of Mordecai’s rise to power and his positive impact on the Persian Empire. Mordecai, who succeeded Haman as the second-in-command to King Ahasuerus, established a new hierarchy and left a legacy of goodness for his people. He used his position to advocate for his people’s well-being and to speak out on their behalf. The story of Esther ends by showing that God’s people can remain faithful even in a foreign land. Mordecai’s life exemplifies how to use divine influence to promote peace and the welfare of others.
