Introduction
In this session, Esther 9:1-10, we focus on the events that took place on the 13th day of Adar, which Haman originally set as the day to destroy the Jews. Instead, it turns into a day of salvation. God’s providence is clear as the Jews, strengthened by Mordecai’s new decree, prevail over their enemies.
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- understood the concept of “divine reversal”—how God turns evil plots into occasions for victory.
- Recognized the importance of the Jews’ collective action for survival.
- Noted the ethical significance of the Jews refusing to take plunder.
Outline
- Tables being turned
- Jews prepared to fight
- Haman’s 10 sons killed
- No plunder taken by Jews

Connecting

Comprehending
- Read Esther 9:1. What do you learn about tables being turned against God’s people? How does verse 1 illustrate the theme of God’s sovereign deliverance, even though God is not explicitly mentioned?
