Introduction
In this session, Acts 19: 1-7, we focus on understanding the role of the Holy Spirit for the 12 disciples in engaging the spiritual blessing. Our knowing of the Holy Spirit is influenced by the mentors and destiny helpers we have in our pilgrimage. Previously, we noted how the couple coached Apollo to become a better destiny helper. In this session, we discover how Paul mentored the 12 disciples to receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit

Group Study Time
Acts 19: 1-7
Connecting
- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.
Comprehending
- Who is the Holy Spirit? What is the difference between the baptism of water and the Holy Spirit? How do we receive the Holy Spirit?
- What is the role of the Holy Spirit in helping us to access the blessings in our pilgrimage? In what forms does the Holy Spirit appear to the believers and non-believers?
- Read Acts 19: 1-7. Who is a non-believer? A believer? a disciple? and a discipler? Describe the believers at Ephesus in these verses before and after Paul met them. What does this tell us about the believers we take care of?
- Why didn’t these believers even hear about the Holy Spirit? How did they receive the Holy Spirit? What is the role of human and the divine in receiving the blessing on their pilgrimage?

The role of the Holy Spirit for the pilgrims to enjoy the blessings
Acts 19: 1-7
Audio Summary
Acts 19:1-7
Context
- Acts 19:1-7 focuses on the church at Ephesus, emphasizing the Holy Spirit’s role in equipping believers for their pilgrimage, moving them from the “valley of Baca” (sin and death) to a life of blessing.
- It builds on the church’s founding, highlighting the need for complete knowledge of the Holy Spirit to access God’s blessings.
Empowering the Church with the Holy Spirit (Acts 19:1-7)
- Abraham’s Mission: The church’s role is likened to Abraham’s call to bless the cursed Canaanites, showing believers are sent to reverse curses through God’s blessings.
- Church Foundation: The church at Ephesus begins in the synagogue through reasoning, led initially by a couple and a learned preacher who knows only John’s baptism.
- Incomplete Knowledge: Twelve disciples, taught by the preacher, know only John’s baptism of repentance, unaware of the Holy Spirit, reflecting their mentor’s limited understanding.
- Holy Spirit’s Introduction: The disciples learn that John’s baptism anticipated Jesus, while water baptism identifies with His death and resurrection. They are baptized in Jesus’ name, receive the Holy Spirit through the laying on of hands, and speak in tongues and prophesy.
- Holy Spirit’s Dimensions: The Holy Spirit is with all (convicting), in believers (guiding), and upon believers (empowering for mission), essential for the church’s growth.
- Collaborative Growth: The church grows through partnership, as one leader’s teaching complements another’s limited knowledge, ensuring access to God’s blessings.
- Pilgrimage Role: Pilgrims rely on the Holy Spirit to transform lives, reversing sin’s curse and equipping the church for its mission.
Application
- Seek full knowledge of the Holy Spirit, partnering with others to grow in faith. Depend on the Spirit’s guidance and empowerment to share blessings, transforming lives on the pilgrimage to Zion.
