Audio Summary
Philippians 4:10-23
Context
- The book of Philippians is a letter of thanks from Paul for the Philippian church’s support during his imprisonment, fulfilling the Macedonian call for help.
- Paul expresses contentment learned in all circumstances, gratitude for their renewed concern and gifts sent via Epaphroditus, and assurance of God’s provision.
- He highlights their unique partnership in giving/receiving, views gifts as fragrant offerings pleasing to God, and extends greetings from fellow believers, including Caesar’s household.
Contentment and Gratitude for Support (Philippians 4:10-23)
- Rejoicing in Renewed Concern: Paul rejoices greatly in the Lord that the Philippians’ concern for him has flourished again, though they lacked opportunity before.
- Contentment in All Circumstances: Not speaking from want, Paul has learned to be content in any situation—humbled or prosperous, full or hungry, plenty or need—able to do all through Christ strengthening him.
- Unique Partnership: No other church partnered in giving/receiving except Philippians, who sent aid multiple times in Thessalonica.
- Desire for Their Credit: Not seeking the gift itself, Paul desires fruit crediting their account; fully supplied by Epaphroditus’ gifts, a fragrant offering and acceptable sacrifice pleasing God.
- God’s Provision: Paul’s God will supply all their needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus; to God the Father be glory forever.
- Greetings and Grace: Greets all saints in Christ Jesus; brothers with him and all saints, especially Caesar’s household, send greetings; grace of Lord Jesus Christ be with their spirit.
