Introduction

No confidence in the flesh as a means of help
Philippians 3 : 1-9
Audio Summary
Philippians 3:1-9
Context
- Many ask for help but few receive it due to rejecting, despising, or not recognizing visitation times, as Jesus wept over Jerusalem.
- Four alignments for receiving help: surrender to God’s will (ch.1), submit to Christ’s cause (ch.2), single-minded focus (ch.3), supplication through prayer (ch.4).
- Single-mindedness involves rejoicing in the Lord as safeguard; beware false teachers insisting on circumcision/confidence in flesh.
- True circumcision worships by Spirit, glories in Christ, puts no confidence in flesh; Paul lists his credentials but counts them loss for Christ.
- Everything loss compared to surpassing worth of knowing Christ; righteousness through faith, not law.
No Confidence in the Flesh (Philippians 3:1-9)
- Rejoice in the Lord: Rejoice in the Lord; repeating is no trouble and safeguards you.
- Beware False Teachers: Watch out for dogs, evildoers, mutilators insisting on circumcision for salvation.
- True Circumcision: We who serve by God’s Spirit, glory in Christ Jesus, put no confidence in flesh are truly circumcised.
- Paul’s Credentials: If confidence in flesh, Paul has more: circumcised on eighth day, Israelite, Benjamite, Hebrew, Pharisee, zealous persecutor, faultless in legalistic righteousness.
- Counting All Loss: Considers these gain as loss for Christ’s sake; everything rubbish to gain Christ, be found in Him with righteousness from God through faith.
Application
- Rejoice in the Lord as protection; reject confidence in human efforts/achievements, counting them loss to gain Christ and righteousness through faith; focus single-mindedly on knowing Him.
