Audio Summary
2 Peter 3:10-18
Context

- Emphasizes God’s patience for repentance and the need to grow in grace and knowledge to avoid being led astray.
Living in Light of the Day of the Lord (2 Peter 3:10-18)
- Day of the Lord: Will come like a thief—heavens disappear with a roar, elements destroyed by intense heat/fire, earth and everything in it laid bare; since all will be destroyed, live holy and godly lives.
- Looking Forward: Speed Christ’s coming by holy living; look forward to new heavens and new earth where righteousness dwells—be diligent to be spotless, blameless, at peace with Him.
- God’s Patience: Regard the Lord’s slowness as salvation—patient for repentance; Paul wrote about this in his letters according to God-given wisdom.
- Warning Against Twisting Scripture: False teachers twist Paul’s letters (hard to understand) and other Scriptures to their own destruction—be on guard to not be carried away by lawless error and fall from secure position.
- Grow in Grace and Knowledge: Grow in the grace and knowledge of Lord and Savior Jesus Christ—to Him be glory both now and forever.
- Purpose: Live expectantly for the day of the Lord, understanding destruction of old and creation of new righteous heavens/earth; avoid false teaching by growing in true knowledge.
Application
- Live holy and godly to hasten Christ’s return, look beyond current destruction to new righteous creation, guard against twisting Scripture, and grow in grace/knowledge of Jesus for stability and glory to Him.
