Grow in Grace for a victorious living in a hostile environment
1 Peter 2: 1-10
Audio Summary
1 Peter 2:1-10
Context
- Continuing encouragement for persecuted believers to stand firm in God’s grace, now focusing on growing in that grace for victorious living amid trials.
- Grace is God’s unmerited favor, enveloping believers securely as pilgrims, enabling them to overcome obstacles like the Israelites in the wilderness.
Grow in Grace for Victorious Living (1 Peter 2:1-10)
- Crave Pure Spiritual Milk: Rid selves of malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander that hinder growth; like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk (the Word of God) to grow up in salvation, having tasted that the Lord is good.
- Come to the Living Stone: Come to Jesus, the living Stone rejected by humans but chosen and precious to God; believers, as living stones, are built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
- Jesus as Cornerstone: Scripture confirms Jesus as the chosen, precious cornerstone—believers who trust Him will never be put to shame, but for unbelievers, He is a stone that causes stumbling and a rock that makes them fall, as they disobey the message.
- Believers’ Identity and Purpose: Believers are a chosen people, royal priesthood, holy nation, God’s special possession—to declare praises of Him who called them out of darkness into wonderful light; once not a people, now God’s people; once without mercy, now recipients of mercy.
- Purpose: Grow in grace to declare God’s praises, influence surrounding people, and recognize significance in God’s house and family while passing through the world.
Application
- Grow in God’s grace by craving His Word, ridding interferences, coming to Jesus as living stones, and embracing identity as chosen people to praise God and impact others victoriously.
