Introduction
In this session, Nehemiah 11:25-36, we see that Jerusalem, as the capital city, was the central hub, while the rest of the nation lived in surrounding towns and villages to sustain the region’s agricultural and economic life. Both the residents and village inhabitants needed spiritual support from Jerusalem, the Holy City
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- Understood that God uses both town dweller leaders and regional believers, and that every environment is a mission field.
- Appreciated that living either in towns or villages is equal before Jesus.
Outline
- Fulfilling God’s purposes right where you are planted.
- Staying in urban or rural areas.
- Challenges and benefits of staying in rural areas
Group Study Time
Nehemiah 11: 25-36
Connecting
- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.
Comprehending
- Read Nehemiah 11: 25-36. The list details the villages and lands outside Jerusalem. Why is it important to have faithful believers living and working in everyday towns and communities, rather than just inside the “church building”?
- What challenges or blessings do you face in being a light for God in your specific neighborhood, workplace, or community? Why does God require some believers to stay in towns while others remain in rural areas?
- How do you think residents of these rural villages stayed connected to Jerusalem’s spiritual life?
- How can we, as believers, make sure that our homes, workplaces, and local communities are spiritually connected to God’s “holy city”?
- Does God require you to move to an urban area or a village for His purposes, or is He calling you to be a light right where you are planted? How can you tell the difference?
- How can believers with different callings and lifestyles support each other in modern Christian communities?
