Introduction
In previous sessions, we examined Nehemiah 1:1-10, where Nehemiah first engaged his brother Hanani to learn about the current condition of their stronghold, as seen in Nehemiah 1:2-3. Then, he reflected on what he could do and, after seeking guidance from the God of heaven for four months (Nehemiah 1:4-11), he gained insight into the city’s state. In this session, focusing on Nehemiah 2:1-10, Nehemiah appears before the King, assesses his condition, and requests permission to return and rebuild his father’s city. He also asks for a letter of introduction and a provisional permit. The news of Nehemiah’s intention to help the Israelites upset the enemies of the Jews (Nehemiah 2:10).
