Introduction
Our holistic healing is influenced by at least six persons: the sick person, the caregivers, the demons, the crowds, the religious leaders, and Jesus. These sessions emphasise overcoming ignorance about biblical healing, rejecting the revealed truth, or forgetting the written and revealed truth on healing.
Objectives
By the end of this session, you will have:
- Understood the TRUTH about the healing ministry of Jesus by looking at six characters who influence the healing of sick persons, namely: the victim’s target audience himself, the care givers, the demons, the crowds, the Pharisees, and Jesus.
- Appreciated the help from above by comparing four possible sources of help (Psalm 121, namely, help from God, from the mountains (people), from self, and the dark world).
- Encouraged and committed to start a healing ministry today by looking at the healing ministry and model of Jesus.
Outline
- Factors that influence our holistic healing:
- Where does our healing help come from?
Group Study Time
Matthew 9:18-38
Connecting
- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.
Comprehending
What do the verses mean?
(In small groups, attempt the following questions):
- Read Matthew 9:18-26. List five truths revealed about the healing ministry of Jesus from the two females (the Church is the bride of Jesus). Who initiated the healing request in these two cases? What was the problem in each? How long had they been sick? What happened after the miracle in each story?
- Read Matthew 9:27-31. List four more truths the disciples learned about the healing ministry of Jesus from the two blind men (the Church is the son of God). What were they healed from? How were they healed, and what happened after the healing? What is the basis of healing?
- Read Matthew 9:32-34. List at least four truths revealed about casting out demons by looking at six characters: the demon-possessed man, his caregivers, the demons, the crowds, the Pharisees, and Jesus.
- Read Matthew 9:35-38. In summary and conclusion of Jesus’s healing ministry (chapters 8 and 9), list seven truths revealed that His disciples learned and could later practice in their own ministry.
- Where did Jesus find the people to heal and serve? What was their current state? What three images did Jesus use to describe the people He served? What did Jesus do to help them? What three types of caregivers (Kingdom workers) do the sick, infirm, and diseased people need? (Matthew 9:35-38).
