Turning disgrace to grace, then to highly favored
Introduction
In this session, Luke 1: 21-38, we learn about turning disgrace to grace and then to be highly graced when God encounters you with His impossibilities. We learn that the Holy Spirit of God births the will of God in our lives. This session also introduces responses to God’s Word by Mary.
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- Understood the truth about turning your disgrace to grace by looking at Elizabeth’s testimony.
- Known about favor and how to respond to God’s favour by looking at Mary’s encounter with the angel Gabriel
- Encouraged to know that there is nothing impossible to God

Connecting
- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.
Comprehending
- Read Luke 1: 21-23. What is revealed about Zachariah the priest? Why was his mouth muted?
- Read Luke 1: 24-25. What is disgrace? List three things you learn about disgrace from Elizabeth’s life? What disgrace have you gone through in life? For how long have you suffered disgrace? How did God take away Elizabeth’s disgrace?
- Read Luke 1: 26-35. What is favor? How does a favored life look? List of five things revealed about Mary.
- Read Luke 1: 36-38. How did Elizabeth’s testimony, as told by the angel encouraged Mary to accept God’s favor in her life? How did Mary respond to God’s favor? Verse 38.
- List four truths revealed about Jesus, the Son of man, from these verses? 31-35.

- Engage with the Bible—read, study, memorize, meditate, pray, listen, and live it out.
- List three lessons you have learnt as an agent of change that you would like to put into practice and teach others about.
- Take time and worship Jesus with the attributes revealed about Christ.
