The Last Supper as a Form to Prepare for Persecution
Introduction
In this session, Luke 22:7-23, Jesus taught his disciples the dynamics of preparing for suffering (in three-fold ways -intellectually, spiritually, and practically) before it begins. The Last Supper was held to strengthen the disciples before they entered suffering.
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- Understood the betrayal as a form of persecution by listing the what of betrayal, the why? When? , where? and how of betrayal?)
- Appreciated the need to prepare for betrayal (suffering) before it begins in three-fold ways, namely, intellectually, spiritually, and practically

- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.
Comprehending
- Read Luke 22: 7-23. List 5 truths revealed about the Passover meal to a fellowship living within hostile cultures. (What is Passover? Why should we celebrate Passover? Where was it to be taken? When to be celebrated, how was it to be celebrated, and with whom are the candidates to celebrate the Passover?
- Luke 22:16, 18. What does it mean to eat the Passover in the kingdom of God?
- Read Luke 22: 15-16. How did Jesus prepare for his suffering (betrayal is a form of persecution)? How is the Passover meal a form of Persecution preparedness? Psalm 23: 5.
