The authority of Jesus was requested and revealed
Introduction
In this session, Luke 20:1-18, we find the Pharisees requesting and challenging Jesus’s authority as God over what he had previously claimed or done. Jesus answered them through a parable of the owner of the farm, His workers, his farm hirers, and his son.
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- Understood how the Pharisees challenged the authority of Jesus being God and how He defeated their argument apologetically by the parable of the evil farmers and Roman coin
- Appreciated that our authority will be challenged as we live in the kingdom of Jesus.
- Identified at least four types of authority represented by the four characters in the farm analogy and two main sources of authority.
Outline
- Jesus’ Authority requested
- Jesus’ authority revealed
- Responding to challenges
