Preparing Disciples for the Sifting
Introduction
In this session, Luke 22:24-38, Jesus warns his disciples concerning the coming sifting of every flock that follows the chief shepherd. The conversation between Jesus and the disciples showed that Peter and the disciples had the wrong attitude towards sifting. The disciples failed to refuel their faith tank in Gethsemane and therefore fell into temptation. Heb 4:16.
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- Understood the principles and doctrine of disciples’ sifting, temptations by looking at Peter’s case study.
- Appreciated Jesus’ prayer for us during our sifting that helps us to turn back to God and to strengthen the upcoming generation.

- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.

Comprehending
- Read Luke 22: 24-27. What did Jesus reveal to the disciples about their dispute over who is the greatest? Who actually is the greatest in the Kingdom of God?
- What is revealed about the kingdom of God? Luke 22: 28-30.
- Read Luke 22: 31-38. What is sifting disciples as wheat 🌾? What is the wrong attitude towards the revelation of the oncoming sifting? What is the right attitude towards sifting announcements?
- Why didn’t the Lord entirely stop Satan from sifting the disciples? What’s God’s role during our sifting? ( See also 1 Cor 10: 12- 13. ). What other lessons do you learn about sifting?
