Introduction
In this session, Luke 3:1-20, introduces the dynamics of preaching the gospel learnt from John the Baptist. The target audience is challenged to prepare their hearts (repentance) to connect with the Lord’s salvation.
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- Understood the dynamics of preaching by listing the main elements in preaching, such as who the preacher is. What is the main message preached by the Church, the bride of Christ, today? How do we preach?
- Appreciated that baptism comes after confession
- Appreciated the importance of customizing the message to different target audiences such as crowds, tax collectors, soldiers, rulers, etc

Group Study Time

Connecting
- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.
Comprehending
- What is preaching? Who is a preacher? What is the main message preached by the Church, the bride of Christ, today? How do we preach?
- Read Luke 3: 1-3. What is revealed about John, the greatest preacher? (Matt 11:11), Where did he preach? What was his main message? What did John say about Jesus? 3: 15-18.
- Luke 3:3, 8a, what is repentance? Why are people baptised?
- Luke 3: 4-6. Identify 5 things people should do in preparing the way for the LORD and his salvation to come?
- What was John’s message to the crowds 3: 7-11. What was the message to the tax collectors? 3: 12-13. Identify the three-fold message to the soldiers? 3: 14. What was the message to Herod? 3: 19-20.

- List three lessons you have learnt as an agent of change that you would like to put into practice and teach others about.
- Take time and worship Jesus with the attributes revealed about Christ.

Communicating
- Identify one person you can connect with and share the valuable insights and lessons you gained from this session.
- Reach out to a new believer—either in person or by phone—and pray with them to support them through their challenges, including any concerns about attending church.
- Create a new group and guide others through this study to help them grow in their understanding.
