Jesus was Betrayed by a Close Friend
Introduction
In this session, Luke 22:1-6, 21-23, 47-48, Jesus taught his disciples the dynamics of betrayal by a close friend. In his presentation, he covered topics such as what betrayal is and why a friend betrays another friend. When does betrayal happen? Where does betrayal take place? And how does one betrayal take place?
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- Understood the betrayal as a form of persecution by listing the what of betrayal, the why? When? , where? and how of betrayal?)
- Appreciated the need to prepare for betrayal (suffering) before it begins by three-fold ways, namely, intellectually, spiritually, and practically

- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.

- What is betrayal by a friend? Why would a friend betray another friend? What form does betrayal take within the fellowship? How does the minority fellowship insulate itself from betrayal among hostile cultures?
- Read Luke 22: 1-6, 21-23. Who was Judas to Jesus? Why would one of the most trusted friends betray his Lord? When did Judas betray Jesus?
- To whom did Judas betray his friend? What was God’s punishment for the betrayer? Luke 22: 47-48. Where did Judas betray Jesus? How did Judas betray Jesus?
- How do we prepare for betrayal in the fellowship? (Intellectually, spiritually, and practically)
