Introduction
In this session, Luke 3:21-38, introduces the dynamics of preaching the gospel learnt from John the Baptist. The target audience is challenged to prepare their hearts (repentance) to connect with the Lord’s salvation.
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- Understood the dynamics of preaching by listing the main elements in preaching, such as who the preacher is. What is the main message preached by the Church, the bride of Christ, today? How do we preach?
- Appreciated that baptism comes after confession
- Appreciated the importance of customizing the message to different target audiences such as crowds, tax collectors, soldiers, rulers, etc

- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.
Comprehending
- Luke 3: 21-22. Why was Jesus baptised? What unique thing happened at Jesus’ baptism?
- Read Luke 3: 23-38. What do you learn about the sonship of Jesus Christ?
- Was he the Son of Joseph, Luke 3:23, or the Son of God, Luke 3:38?
- Discuss 3. Mathew 3: 13-17, Mk 1: 9-11. What do these verses speak about the Son of God during his baptism?
