Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath
Introduction
In this session, Luke 6: 1-16, Jesus continues to teach the agents of change the nature of opposition they were to expect as they followed Him. He, selected 12 apostles and taught them attitudes to live by.
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- Understood the nature of opposition to kingdom transformation by highlighting who the agents were, what they were opposed to, and why and how Jesus silenced them biblically
- Appreciated that everything you do will be objected to by critics, hence the need to be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks for it.

Group Study Time
Luke 6: 1-16
Connecting
- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.
Comprehending
- Read Luke 6: 1-5. Retell what was happening in the story? What is sabbath rest? What is the Pharisees’ understanding of sabbath rest? What is Jesus’ view of sabbath rest?
- Read Luke 6: 6-11. Then, retell the story in your own words. Who were the critics of Jesus? Why did they criticize him? How did Jesus defeat them? What lessons did Jesus teach the agents of transformation?
- Read Luke 6: 12-16. What is the difference between disciples and apostles? List 3 truths revealed on how Jesus chose his agents of transformation
Committing
- Engage with the Bible—read, study, memorize, meditate, pray, listen, and live it out.
- List three lessons you have learnt as an agent of change that you would like to put into practice and teach others about.
- Take time and worship Jesus with the attributes revealed about Christ.
