Introduction
In these two sessions, John 4:1-14 and John 4:15-30, we see how different people (travellers) relate to Jesus (the stairway, as described in John 1:51). We also witness how Jesus transforms some of these travelers into true worshippers.
The key questions we will reflect on are:
- Who do the Jewish leaders (travellers) say Jesus is?
- Who does the Samaritan woman say Jesus is?
- Who do the Samaritan people say Jesus is?
- Who do the disciples of Jesus say Jesus is?
- Who do the Capernaum official and his household say Jesus is?
- Who do the people of Galilee say Jesus is?
- Who do we say Jesus is?
Additionally, we will discover the five levels the Samaritan woman went through in coming to know Jesus better and ultimately becoming a true worshipper.
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- Appreciated how Jesus won a Samaritan woman into a true worshipper of God.
- Identified the three categories of worshippers of God and how Christ converts us into the true type of worshippers.
- Understood stages 3 and 4 that the Samaritan woman went through in becoming a true worshipper in Christ by examining the provided verses.

Group Study Time
John 4: 15-30
Connecting
- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.
Comprehending
- Soul winning is a process with three stages: how a soul encounters (meets) the truth about Jesus, how a soul experiences the truth about Jesus, and how the soul expresses (shares) the truth about Jesus. How did the Samaritan woman encounter (meet) Jesus? How did she experience Jesus (John 4:15-29)? How did she express Jesus (John 4:28-30)?
- True worship is about knowing who we worship. Identify and discuss stage 3 (John 4:15-19) and stage 4 of knowing Jesus better (experiencing Him), John 4:20-25, 26-30.
- Read John 4:20-24. Identify three types of worshippers. What is the difference between these three types of worshippers? Compare with Galatians 3:26-29.
Committing
- Engage with the Bible—read, study, memorize, meditate, pray, listen, and live it out.
- List three lessons you have learnt as an agent of change that you would like to put into practice and teach others about.
- Take time and worship Jesus with the attributes revealed about Christ.
- Use the SPACEPETS model, to assist you in putting God’s word into practice. Look for:
- Sin to confess

- Error to change
- Prayer to make
- Example to copy
- Truth to obey and
- Something praiseworthy
Communicating
- Identify one person you can connect with and share the valuable insights and lessons you gained from this session.
- Reach out to a new believer—either in person or by phone—and pray with them to support them through their challenges, including any concerns about attending church.
- Create a new group and guide others through this study to help them grow in their understanding.
