Confronting the cancer of heresies in the last days
1 John 1:1-10
Audio Summary
1 John 1:1-10
- Context:
- Post-Romans, John’s letters confront the “cancer” of heresies in the last days, using the Luke 15 brothers to reflect Jews/Gentiles facing false teachings.
- After Jerusalem’s fall (A.D. 70), believers’ love grew cold, swayed by Antichrist lies—John writes as an eyewitness to restore truth.
- Incarnation Affirmed (1 John 1:1-4):
- John testifies to the Word of Life—seen, touched, eternal—countering heresies denying Jesus as fully God or fully man (v. 1-2); fellowship with Father and Son brings joy (v. 3-4).
- Mercy restores truth—Jesus is God incarnate, uniting us to God.
- Light and Confession (1 John 1:5-7):
- God is light, no darkness in Him; walking in light (truth) fosters fellowship, cleansed by Jesus’ blood (v. 5-7).
- Mercy purifies—confession aligns us with God’s holiness.
- Sin and Forgiveness (1 John 1:8-10):
- Denying sin deceives; confessing it brings forgiveness and cleansing (v. 8-10); false teachers’ claims of sinlessness are lies.
- Mercy forgives—honesty about sin secures God’s grace.
- Application:
- Combat heresies like cancer—affirm Jesus’ deity and humanity, walk in light, confess sin—to maintain fellowship and shine in a dark world.
