Introduction
In this session, James 5:13-20 focuses on understanding the principles of the prayer of faith for the oppressed. We will highlight the role of holistic healing that encompasses our spirits, souls, and bodies. Minority believers living among majority non-believers can access different forms of healing, such as medicine, prayer, laying on of hands, anointing with oil, confession of sins, and the Holy Spirit

The Prayer of Faith
James 5: 13-20
Audio Summary
James 5:13-20
Context
- When Jesus came, He declared good news to the poor, healing to the sick, sight to the blind, freedom to captives, and healing to the oppressed, emphasizing holistic healing as Jehovah Rapha who heals souls, bodies, and spirits.
- James focuses on prayer of faith as a means to access healing, patience amid oppression until the Lord’s coming, and restoring wanderers from truth.
Healing, Patience, and Restoration (James 5:13-20)
- Responses to Various Conditions: If in trouble, pray; if happy, praise; if sick, call elders to pray and anoint with oil in the Lord’s name—the prayer of faith saves the sick, the Lord raises them; if sinned, forgiven.
- Confession and Prayer: Confess sins to one another and pray for healing; the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective, like Elijah who prayed earnestly for no rain for three and a half years, then for rain, and it rained.
- Patience for the Oppressed: Be patient until the Lord’s coming, like farmers waiting for early and latter rains to bring valuable crop; like prophets who endured suffering in the Lord’s name; like Job who lost everything but persevered, and the Lord restored double, showing compassion and mercy.
- Warning to Oppressors and Against Grumbling: To oppressors, the Lord of Sabbath sees and will pay; do not grumble against one another to avoid judgment; do not swear by heaven or earth—let yes be yes and no be no, to avoid condemnation.
- Restoring Wanderers: If someone wanders from truth, turn them back to save from death and cover a multitude of sins.
- Purpose: Bring joys, sickness, and troubles to God in prayer and praise for holistic healing; be patient amid oppression knowing Jesus is coming; restore those straying from faith.
Application
- Bring everything to God in prayer and praise for healing; be patient like farmers, prophets, and Job until the Lord’s return; avoid grumbling and false oaths; turn wanderers back to truth to save souls.
