Faith is the Currency of the Kingdom
Hebrews 11: 24-31
Audio Summary
Hebrews 11:24-31
Context
- Continuing the hall of faith examples, this section focuses on Moses, the Israelites, and Rahab as witnesses who acted on faith, trusting God’s word despite difficult choices and unseen outcomes.
- These models counter temptations to revert to ancestral worship or old ways, showing faith as believing God will fulfill promises, even if fulfillment comes later or looks foolish.
Faith in Action: Witnesses from Moses to Rahab (Hebrews 11:24-31)
- Moses’ Faith Choices: By faith refused to be called Pharaoh’s son; chose mistreatment with God’s people over Egypt’s sinful pleasures; valued reproach for Christ greater than Egypt’s treasures, looking to eternal reward; by faith left Egypt unafraid of king’s anger, persevering because he saw the invisible God; by faith kept Passover and sprinkled blood to protect firstborn from destroyer.
- Israelites at Red Sea: By faith crossed Red Sea as on dry land (waters parted for escape from Egypt); Egyptians drowned attempting the same—faith trusted God’s provision for deliverance.
- Jericho’s Walls: By faith walls fell after encircled 7 days (marched silently 6 days once each, 7th day 7 times then shouted); looked foolish like going in circles (total 13 circuits), but trusted God’s command for victory without fighting—first city claimed as God’s.
- Rahab the Prostitute: By faith welcomed Israelite spies, not perishing with disobedient Jericho residents; believed spies’ word of coming destruction, gathered family, tied scarlet cord in window for protection—only one saved in city.
- Common Thread: All made difficult choices trusting God’s faithful word; died in faith without full promise (e.g., Christ’s coming) but assured of better fulfillment; faith activates miracles, overcomes fear, and leads to victory.
- Purpose: Encourage perseverance in faith race; don’t turn back—trust God’s promises will come to pass, as seen in these witnesses from exodus to conquest.
Application
- Make faith-based choices trusting God’s invisible faithfulness, even if they seem foolish or costly; persevere like Moses, Israelites, and Rahab to see promises fulfilled and enter rest.
