Living by the Spirit’s power
Introduction
In this session, Galatians chapter 5: 16-26, we will focus on understanding how to live by the power of the Holy Spirit as you walk on the path of Christian liberty and the dangers of walking by the power of human flesh
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- Understood the benefits and fruits of Christian freedom while walking in the right way to self and others.
- Been warned of the dangers of not maintaining Christian freedom

Group Study Time

Connecting
- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.

- Read Galatians 5: 1, 5: 16-26, what truth did Paul give about maintaining Christian liberty, (freedom) by the Holy Spirit power and not get to flesh living again?
- What are the results of following your sinful nature? Galatians 5: 19-21
- What is the fruit of following the Spirit’s guide? Galatians 5: 22-23.

Context
- Walking in freedom requires living by the Spirit, using freedom to build others humbly in love, not indulging flesh which leads to destruction.
- Abusing freedom through fighting, envy, and negative energy weakens individuals and community, facilitating drift from freedom’s path.
- Flesh and Spirit conflict; acts of flesh exclude from God’s kingdom, while fruit of Spirit marks spiritual living without law.
- Crucify flesh and keep in step with Spirit to avoid conceit, provocation, envy that destroy.
Walking by the Spirit (Galatians 5:13-26)
- Use Freedom to Serve: Called to freedom, do not use it to indulge flesh; serve one another humbly in love.
- Law in Love: Entire law fulfilled in loving neighbor as self.
- Avoid Devouring: Biting and devouring each other leads to mutual destruction.
- Walk by Spirit: Walk by Spirit to not gratify flesh’s desires.
- Conflict: Flesh and Spirit contrary, in conflict preventing doing whatever wanted.
- Not Under Law: Led by Spirit means not under law.
- Acts of Flesh: Obvious acts: sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealousy, rage, ambition, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, orgies; those living thus will not inherit God’s kingdom.
- Fruit of Spirit: Love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; no law against these.
- Crucify Flesh: Belonging to Christ means crucifying flesh with passions and desires.
- Keep in Step: Live by Spirit, keep in step with Spirit.
- Avoid Conceit: Do not become conceited, provoking, envying each other.
Application
- Let Spirit guide in freedom’s path, building through love, not destroying via conceit or envy.
