Introduction
In this session, Esther 6:1-14, we focus on understanding the great reversal, where God overturned Haman’s plot. This chapter marks a turning point in the entire Book of Esther, highlighting God’s hidden, sovereign hand at work during a sleepless night to rescue His people. Previously, Esther held a suspenseful banquet for the king and Haman, while Haman was building a large pole to hang Mordecai. The king could not sleep, so he requested records of his deeds and discovered Mordecai’s unacknowledged acts. Early in the morning, Haman arrived, and a request for honor was made that completely reversed the power dynamics
Objectives

- Recognized God’s sovereignty by seeing how God works through “coincidences” and human actions to accomplish His purposes.
- Analyzed pride versus humility by contrasting Haman’s prideful assumptions with Mordecai’s faithfulness.
- Reflected God’s great reversal by showing how God can transform seemingly hopeless situations.
- Challenged to trust in God’s timing by understanding that His timing is perfect, even when it feels delayed.

Comprehending
- Read Esther 6: 1-3. Describe the King’s sleepless night and God’s perfect timing. Why was it important to hear about Mordecai saving his life at that exact moment? Have you ever experienced a time when a delayed event in your life turned out to be God’s perfect timing? Share how this scene highlights God’s hidden hand.
- Read Esther 6: 4-9. Contrast how Haman comes to ask for Mordecai’s death while the king is seeking to honor him. Why does Haman immediately assume the king wants to honor him? List the things he asked for his assumed honor? What does this reveal about what he values?
- Read Esther 6: 10-12. What emotions do you think Haman experienced while leading his enemy through the city? Compare Mordecai’s action of returning to the gate with Haman’s reaction of rushing home in mourning in v. 12. How does this illustrate the idea of reaping what you sow?
- Read Esther 6:13-14. Describe the warning Haman’s wife and advisers gave him about Mordecai, who was Jewish. Why is their sudden shift in perspective important? How does this chapter encourage you to trust God’s justice when you feel overlooked or under attack?
