Introduction
In this session on Daniel 1:15-21, we see the tangible results of spiritual resolve and divine favor after they refused to defile themselves with the royal Babylonian portions. This passage covers the miraculous outcome of the 10-day dietary test, the divine gifts of wisdom bestowed upon the Hebrew youths, and their subsequent elevation in King Nebuchadnezzar’s court. God honors their faithfulness by making them physically strong and intellectually superior to all the king’s counselors, setting the stage for their long-standing influence in a pagan empire.
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- Identified how God rewards faithfulness and honors those who honor Him.
- Distinguished between the wisdom given by God and the world’s cultural education.
- Evaluated areas in their own lives where they need to maintain structural boundaries without being combative
Outline

- The difference between God-given wisdom and cultural education
- Ten times better
- Our integrity has a long-term impact on nations
Group Study Time
Daniel 1: 15-21
Connecting
- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.
Comprehending
- Read Daniel 1:15-16. What was the physical result of the 10-day test, and how did it affect the supervisor’s subsequent actions? How does this demonstrate God’s sovereignty over natural circumstances?
- Read Daniel 1:17. What does it reveal about the source of wisdom? God gave these four young men knowledge, understanding, learning, skill, and wisdom. What is the significance of recognizing God as the source of their intellect rather than their Babylonian schooling? How does this passage challenge the idea that you have to compromise your faith to be successful in the world?
- Read Daniel 1:18–20. The king finds these men “ten times better” than all the magicians and enchanters. How can a believer today remain “in the world but not of it,” striving for excellence in their professional life while keeping God first?
- Read Daniel 1:21, which mentions that Daniel remained there until the first year of King Cyrus (spanning roughly 70 years). What does this single verse teach us about the long-term impact of choosing integrity early in life?
