The Glory of the New Covenant
2 Corinthians 3: 7-18
Audio Summary
2 Corinthians 3:7-18
Context
- Paul’s heart revealed in joy (Philippians) or pain; Second Corinthians written after healing from rebuke in first letter, responding to self-appointed apostles (Judaizers) deconstructing his teachings.
- These false ministers preached old covenant practices like circumcision, undermining Jesus’ fulfillment; Paul contrasts covenants to win back his spiritual children.
- Old covenant transitory glory leading to death/condemnation; new brings life/righteousness, lasting glory through Spirit.
Superior Glory of the New Covenant (2 Corinthians 3:7-18)
- Ministry of Death’s Glory: Ministry of death (engraved on stone) came with glory, Moses’ face radiant, though Israelites couldn’t gaze as it faded.
- Greater Glory of Spirit: Ministry of Spirit more glorious; if condemning ministry glorious, righteous ministry surpasses it.
- Fading vs. Lasting Glory: Fading glory made bold; lasting righteous ministry brings greater boldness, no veiling needed.
- Veil Over Minds: Israelites’ minds dull, veil remains when reading old covenant, as only Christ removes it.
- Freedom in Turning to Lord: Turning to Lord removes veil; Lord is Spirit, bringing freedom.
- Transformation into Glory: With unveiled faces, contemplate Lord’s glory, transformed into His image with increasing glory from the Spirit.
Application
- Embrace New Covenant’s superior, lasting glory through Spirit; turn to Christ to remove veils, experiencing freedom and transformation into His image.
