Paul’s conduct comforts and builds the hurting church
2 Corinthians 11:1-15
Audio Summary
2 Corinthians 11:1-15
Context
- Marks of true apostles (chs. 10-13): authority to build (ch. 10), jealousy/presentation as pure virgin to Christ, not tolerating different Jesus/spirit/gospel.
- False apostles deceive as serpent deceived Eve; disguise as apostles of light like Satan; expose through authority, conduct differing from theirs (charge for ministry, boast unduly).
- Paul’s jealousy divine; betrothed church to one husband—Christ; fears minds corrupted from sincere devotion.
Marks of True Apostles (2 Corinthians 11:1-15)
- Bear with Foolishness: Bear with little foolishness; divine jealousy—betrothed as pure virgin to Christ.
- Fear of Deception: Fears minds corrupted from devotion to Christ, as serpent deceived Eve by cunning.
- Different Gospel Tolerated: If someone preaches different Jesus, spirit, gospel—you tolerate; if not beyond them, why put up with deceivers?
- Not Inferior: Unskilled in speaking but not knowledge; made clear in all.
- No Charge for Gospel: Sin to preach free, robbing other churches for support to serve you? No burden, won’t start; boasting in Achaia not stopped.
- Love Proved: Keep doing to undercut false apostles wanting equality; cut off their boasting opportunity.
- False Apostles Exposed: Deceitful workers disguising as apostles; not surprising—Satan disguises as angel of light, servants as righteous; end matches deeds.
Application
- Guard sincere devotion to Christ, rejecting different gospels; expose false apostles by free ministry, differing conduct; use authority to build, not deceive.
