Introduction
In this session 2: 12-17, we will focus on understanding the heart of Paul as a minister of the new covenant and as a captive Jesus triumphant procession. Through the Lord Jesus had opened a big door of opportunity to preach at Troas, Paul had no peace of mind because he had not received a feedback report about the state of the Corinthians’ repentance. We will understand the motivations of our preaching compared with other ministers.

Minister of the New Covenant Preaches Forgiveness
2 Corinthians 2: 12-17
Audio Summary
2 Corinthians 2:12-17
Context
- The Corinthian church was hurting due to division and sin, wounding Paul and the community; after repentance, Paul brings comfort and resolves conflict.
- Paul uses the analogy of a Roman triumphal procession to describe believers as captives spreading Christ’s knowledge, contrasting with false preachers who peddle the word for profit.
- Believers triumph in Christ despite unrest, spreading His aroma everywhere.
Triumph in Christ Amid Conflict (2 Corinthians 2:12-17)
- Unrest in Troas: Paul went to Troas to preach but had no peace of mind without Titus; he left an open door for the gospel to find Titus in Macedonia.
- Triumphal Procession: Thanks to God who leads in Christ’s triumphal procession, like Roman captives in a victory parade spreading incense.
- Spreading Christ’s Knowledge: Believers spread the fragrance of Christ’s knowledge everywhere, pleasing God.
- Aroma of Life and Death: To the saved, an aroma of life; to the perishing, an aroma of death; who is adequate for this task?
- Contrast with Peddlers: Unlike many who peddle God’s word for profit, Paul speaks sincerely before God, as sent from Him.
Application
- Trust God’s leading in triumph despite unrest; spread Christ’s fragrance sincerely without profiting from the word, bringing life to the saved and warning to the perishing.
