A believing spouse brings holiness to her marriage and family
1 Corinthians 7: 12-24
- Session: 14
- Week: 2
- Day: 7
Introduction
In this session, 1 Corinthians 7: 12-24, we will focus our attention on how to deal with marriage issues and singlehood issues in a culture that favours sexual immorality. We will focus on the encouragement of the spouse not to separate because the other has converted unless it is a must. Paul gave the advantage of the converted spouse becoming the vessel that God could use to change the other person.

A believing spouse brings holiness to her marriage and family
1 Corinthians 7: 12-24
Audio Summary
1 Corinthians 7:10-24
Context
- Paul continues addressing the Corinthian church’s questions about marriage, focusing on maintaining faithfulness in various marital situations within a sexually immoral culture.
- The passage provides instructions for married believers, mixed marriages, and those in their current state, emphasizing God’s calling and peace.
Faithfulness in Marriage and Calling (1 Corinthians 7:10-24)
- No Divorce: The Lord commands that a wife not separate from her husband, nor a husband divorce his wife; if separated, remain unmarried or reconcile to maintain godly commitment.
- Mixed Marriages: In marriages with an unbeliever, stay if the unbeliever consents, as the believing spouse sanctifies the marriage, potentially leading to the unbeliever’s salvation.
- Peace in Relationships: If the unbeliever leaves, the believer is not bound, as God calls believers to live in peace, not conflict, within their marriages.
- Stay in Your Calling: Believers should remain in the state (married, single, slave, free) they were in when called, trusting God’s grace to serve Him in any circumstance.
- Four Pillars Continued: Grace (forgiveness), authority (leadership), intimacy, and empowerment guide marriages, ensuring faithfulness even in challenging cultural contexts.
- Purpose: Staying faithful in marriage or one’s calling, despite cultural pressures, allows believers to honor God and live in peace, reflecting His kingdom.
Application
- Remain committed to marriage, pursue peace in mixed marriages, stay in your God-given calling, and rely on biblical principles to honor God amidst cultural challenges.
