Introduction
In this session, Colossians chapter 2: 1-10, we focus on understanding the discipler’ s role or the Shepherd’s role for believers to inherit the Kingdom of God. The session will also focus on the individual’s appropriate response and role to Christ’s kindness (love in action and practical terms). We focus on things to allow and things to disallow to inherit the kingdom of God. We wish to know how the individual believers should contend for their own freedom in Christ and from negative cultural rules. (Contending for the kingdom of God, rule of God over the influences of the dark world).

Audio Summary
Colossians 2:1-10
Context
- The study covers scriptures verse by verse, chapter by chapter, book by book, allowing the Word of God to transform and establish roots of faith.
- In Community Discovery Bible Study, the Bible interprets itself; if an answer is not found in one book, it may appear in another.
- Colossians addresses accessing help from above, with believers having dual citizenship: seated in heavenly places with Christ while on earth.
- Help is accessed through prayer, fasting, giving, and aligning with God’s will, but false teachers claim additional requirements like special knowledge or asceticism.
- Paul contends against these forces, urging believers to also contend; mentors, pastors, apostles, prophets, evangelists, and teachers labor for believers.
Paul’s Contending for the Church (Colossians 2:1-6)
- Struggle for Believers: Paul wants them to know how hard he is contending for them, for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not met him personally.
- Purpose of Struggle: His goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, having full riches of complete understanding to know the mystery of God, namely Christ.
- Hidden Treasures: In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
- Prevent Deception: Paul tells this so no one may deceive them by fine-sounding arguments.
- Presence in Spirit: Though absent in body, Paul is present with them in spirit and delights to see how disciplined they are and how firm their faith in Christ is.
Application
- Honor the labor of mentors, apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers who contend for believers.
