Outcomes for Colossians
Understanding and accessing our Help from Above
The Church at Collossae was opened by one of Paul’s disciple called Epaphras (Colossians 1:7-8, after he was trained at the hall of Tyramnus in Ephesus. Acts 19:10-12), so that all the Jews and the Greeks who lived in the Provence of Asia heard the word of the Lord. Shortly after the opening of the community of faith, several false teachings (syncretism) emerged distracting the fellowship from accessing help from above (Psalms 121: 1-6) namely, Self help, help from philosophy (hills), and help from dark world. (cultic and occultic teachings).
The letter to Colossians will help us to understand how King Jesus’s spiritual blessing/Help is supreme and enough to establish you in a hostile environment where believers were enticed to go back to human efforts or others help. This letter tells us what Christ has done to have believers access the spiritual blessing or help in the heavenly places and what the Christian should do in response to what Christ did.
Paul provide four sets of instructions of what you need to know, what you need to do and what you need to be in order to access help from above in a hostile culture namely:
- Personal instructions
- Doctrinal instructions
- Practical instructions
- Relational interactions
