Introduction
In this session, Mathew 27:27-50, through the accounts of various eyewitnesses, we discover that Jesus was indeed the Lamb of God, without spot, blemish, or sin. Under normal circumstances, He should have been released, as He was innocent. However, to fulfil the prophecy that the Lamb would be sacrificed without sin, Jesus was offered up for the sins of the world. This passage also highlights the actions of the soldiers, thieves, and the crowds in the persecution of Jesus. Jesus’ death was to set every captive free—whether from the political class, religious class, or among criminals, encompassing soldiers, men, women, you, and me.
