Introduction
Jesus’s public ministry of Kingdom expansion followed a specific pattern. Firstly, He invested in Himself through prayer and fasting (Matthew 4:1-5). Secondly, He invested in His mentees through teaching. Thirdly, He invested in His target audience through preaching and healing. In all these tasks—whether for Himself, His mentees, or His target audience—there was a demonstration of the power of the Kingdom of God (Matthew 4:23). Unbelievers turned into believers in Him, while believers became disciples who ultimately transformed into disciple-makers.
Objectives
By the end of this session, you will have:
- Understood how King Jesus displayed and demonstrated His power by taking the disciples/mentees into the field for practical ministry experience.
- Appreciated Jesus’s role in healing through different methods, such as touching the sick person, declaring healing words from a distance, and rebuking demons.
- Understood that Jesus initiated His healing ministry in three ways: the ill person would ask for healing, another person would seek healing on behalf of someone else, and Jesus Himself would initiate the healing process.
Outline
Jesus was the Expected Messiah as expressed through:
- Jesus demonstrated how to establish dominance in the Kingdom through healing.
- Different forms of healing.

Matthew 8:1-17
Connecting
- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.

- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.
Comprehending
What do the verses mean?
(In small groups, attempt the following questions):
- What attributes of God are revealed here?
- What is the meaning of the words “infirmity” and “disease”? What is healing? Why did Jesus heal? How did Jesus heal?
- Read Matthew 8:1-4; Matthew 8:5-13; Matthew 8:14-15; Matthew 8:16-17. List the first four infirmities and diseases that Jesus healed after He came down from the mountain. Who did He heal in each case? Who initiated the process in each case? How did Jesus heal in each of the four cases? What were the responses after the healing? Discuss.
- List at least four truths you have learned about Jesus, the healer, that you can worship and trust Him for today.
