Introduction
In this session, Ezekiel 13:1-16 focuses on God’s condemnation of false prophets who fabricated visions, ignored impending judgment, and gave the people a false sense of security. God compares their empty reassurance to applying a coat of whitewash to a cracked, unstable wall before a coming storm. During a national crisis, when the people of Israel desperately needed God’s truth, false prophets took advantage of the situation by telling them what they wanted to hear. These impostors claimed messages from God that were completely their own creations. They were preaching “Peace!” while God’s judgment was near, leaving the nation unprepared for the storm. God declares severe judgment on these deceivers, promising to tear down their flimsy wall and reveal the truth.

Group Study Time
Ezekiel 13: 1-16
Connecting
- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.
Comprehending
- Read Ezekiel 13: 1-6. What is revealed about the source of false messages and the consequences? Ezekiel accuses the false prophets of speaking from their own imagination rather than God’s Spirit. How can we tell the difference between messages that come from human wisdom and those that are truly from God?
- In Ezekiel 13:5, Ezekiel says these prophets did not go to the breaches to repair the wall for the nation. What does this imply about the role of a true spiritual leader or mentor during times of trouble? Read Ezekiel 13:7-10. What is God saying about these false prophets?
- Read Ezekiel 13:10-12. What do you understand by the metaphor “Whitewash”? The false prophets covered up a weak wall with whitewash to make it look strong. In our personal lives or in our communities, how do we sometimes “whitewash” our spiritual cracks rather than address them?
- Read Ezekiel 13:13-16. List additional judgments God speaks against the false prophets. What is peace? These prophets misled the people by declaring peace when there was no peace. Why is it sometimes tempting to only listen to teachers or leaders who promise comfort, and how can hard truths ultimately benefit our spiritual growth?
- Read Ezekiel 13: 13-15. What does it reveal about facing the storm? God promises to use a destructive storm to dismantle the faulty wall. How does God’s discipline and exposure of false security ultimately lead to a stronger reliance on His true strength?
