Introduction
In this session, Ezekiel 10:14-22, we examine the heartbreaking departure of God’s glory from the Temple. In one of the most sobering moments in the Old Testament, the visible, radiant glory of the Lord (the Shekinah) rises from the cherubim. Due to persistent idolatry and corruption among the people, God’s presence leaves the inner court, moves to the Temple’s threshold, and eventually rests at the East Gate before departing from the city entirely.
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- Traced the movement and departure of God’s glory in this chapter.
- Discussed the spiritual consequences of harboring sin and pushing away God’s presence.
- Identified the main themes of God’s presence and eventual restoration.

Comprehending
- Read Ezekiel 10: 14-22. What is the meaning of the glory of God? How was the glory of God manifested? Why did the glory of God leave the temple?
- Read Ezekiel 10: 4-19. Trace step by step how the glory of the Lord moved, leaving the temple. Why is this progression so significant?
