Holy Wednesday Events
In this session, Zechariah 12:10-14, we will compare Zechariah’s prophecy of the second coming of King Jesus with Jesus’s prediction of his upcoming return recorded in Matthew 24 and 25. In his prediction of the second coming, Jesus revealed four truths to guide his worried disciples: 1. There is an expected end. 2. I will give signs to lead you to it. 3. Jesus will soon return. 4. You will be home soon
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- Understood when Jesus revealed concerning the destruction of his house and his second coming
- Understood what Jesus revealed to his disciples about the signs of his second coming
- Appreciated that the four things Jesus told his disciples to prepare for before he comes again (prepare for ministry, for persecution, for his second coming, and for abundant living)
Outline
- Palm Sunday (Matt 21:1–17): Jesus enters Jerusalem on a colt, hailed as King. He cleanses the Temple, driving out money changers.
- Holy Monday (Matt 21:18–22): Jesus curses the barren fig tree on his way into Jerusalem, symbolizing judgment on Israel’s spiritual fruitlessness. He gives the Olivet Discourse on the destruction of the Temple and his second coming.
- Holy Tuesday (Matt 21:23: 1-39): Day of intense controversy, Jesus’ authority is challenged, Jesus teaches in parables, Jesus asks them hard questions, and denounces Pharisees (Chapter 23).
- Holy Wednesday (Chapters 24-25) He gives the Olivet Discourse on the destruction of the Temple and his second coming.
- Holy Thursday (Matt 26:1–75): Jesus is anointed at Bethany, and Judas Iscariot conspires with religious leaders to betray him. Jesus eats the Passover meal (Last Supper), institutes the Eucharist, prays in Gethsemane, and is arrested.
- Good Friday Mathew 27:1-61: Jesus faces trials before Caiaphas and Pilate, is mocked, scourged, and crucified at Golgotha, then buried in Joseph of Arimathea’s tomb.
- Holy Saturday (Matt 27:62–66): The religious leaders secure the tomb with guards to prevent the disciples from stealing the body.
- Easter Sunday (Matt 28:1–20): The tomb is found empty; Jesus is resurrected and appears to the women, then the disciples.

- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.

- Read Mathew 24: 1-2. What did Jesus reveal about the destruction of his house in the end times? What were the disciples’ questions about the destruction of the house? Mathew 24: 3.
- Read Mathew 24:4-28. Describe the signs of the end of the age that Jesus gave his disciples?
- Read Mathew 24: 29-51. What did Jesus reveal about his second coming and how his disciples would prepare to wait for him
- Read Mathew 25: 1-13. What is revealed about waiting for the second coming of Jesus through the parable of the 10 virgins
- Read Mathew 25: 14-30. What is revealed about the management of talents as we wait for his second coming
- Read 25: 31-46. What did Jesus say about the judgment of the Gentiles when he comes again
Committing
- Engage with the Bible—read, study, memorize, meditate, pray, listen, and live it out.
- List three lessons you have learnt as an agent of change that you would like to put into practice and teach others about.
- Take time and worship Jesus with the attributes revealed about Christ.
