Introduction
In this session, Luke 21:12-24, Jesus taught his disciples about two more signs of the future, namely the persecution of Israel and the destruction of the temple by the Gentiles, and the problems thereof. Previously, Jesus had taught his disciples two of the most important doctrines: the kingdom and the doctrine of future events! What will happen in the future?
In his teaching, Jesus presented to the disciples the right view of looking at the kingdom of God (rule of God on earth): 1. What was lifelike before the coming of the kingdom of God? 2. How should we live now that the kingdom of God is in our midst or within us? 3. How should we prepare for the coming of the full kingdom of God?
Concerning the future, Jesus reveals some truths and conceals others. He reveals at least four things about the future, namely: 1. there will be an expected end of all things, 2. There will be signs to guide us towards this expected end 3. Jesus will soon be there 4. We will soon be home eternally. Jesus, however, concealed the exact time of his coming.
