Introduction
In this session, Luke 25-35, the invited guests responded differently to the invitation. There are those who have excuses not to attend the table feast of the Lord. Equally, there are those who accepted the invitation but without counting the cost of discipleship. In this session, Jesus the Lord and the host of the feast explain the cost of being a student of accepting his goodness.
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- Understood the truths about the cost of discipleship, studentship to the crowds who follow Jesus
- Appreciated why Jesus compared discipleship to building and fighting

Group Study Time
Luke 14: 25-35
Connecting
- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.
Comprehending
- What is the cost of being a student, or discipleship in any institution? What is the teacher’s part of the cost for the discipleship?
- Read Luke 14: 25-28a, 33. What are the three main conditions of being a student of Jesus? Discuss.
- Read Luke 14: 28- 30. List three truths about counting the cost compared to building.
- Read Luke 14: 31-33. What truth did Jesus say about counting the cost compared to fighting?
- What did Jesus say about discipleship and salt? Luke 14: 34-35.
Committing
- Engage with the Bible—read, study, memorize, meditate, pray, listen, and live it out.
- List three lessons you have learnt as an agent of change that you would like to put into practice and teach others about.
- Take time and worship Jesus with the attributes revealed about Christ.
