Introduction
In this session Luke 14: 1-11, Jesus taught lessons at the table of the Pharisees who had invited Him. He took advantage of exposing the motives that guided the religious man, such as a lack of compassion for the sick during the day of rest, a lack of humility while invited for a feast
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- Table talk, the table of the Lord
- Earthly host and heavenly host
- Doing good on the Sabbath day of rest
Outline
- Understood the connection between doing good and taking rest by reflecting on the stories taught by Jesus
- Appreciated the lessons at the table of earthly hosts and the heavenly Kingdom host
Group Study Time
Luke 14: 1-11
Connecting
- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.
Comprehending
- What is doing good? Which is the most important day of the week? Why?
- What is Rest? Why should we rest? What are the types of Rest? When do we rest? How do we rest?
- Read Luke 14: 1-6. What do you learn from Jesus about doing good to the needy people on sabbath day? What does the hungry need at the table? What do the sick at the table need?
- Read Luke 14: 7-I1. Identify three lessons that Jesus taught to those invited to the table. What do those invited to the table need most?
Committing
- Engage with the Bible—read, study, memorize, meditate, pray, listen, and live it out.
- List three lessons you have learnt as an agent of change that you would like to put into practice and teach others about.
- Take time and worship Jesus with the attributes revealed about Christ.
