Jesus’ teaching agents of change about prayer dynamics
Introduction
In this session, Luke 11:1-13, Jesus revealed to the agents of transformation how to relate to God, to those in need of bread, and to the Kingdom of darkness. We connect to God, the source, by prayers and other spiritual disciplines, and we connect to the needy through compassion, which makes us risk and ask on their behalf. We connect to the kingdom of darkness by being courageous, which enables us to bind the strong man and then take the captives away from his dominion.

Jesus’ teaching agents of change about prayer dynamics
Luke 11: 1-13
Audio Summary
Luke 11:1-13
Context
- Disciples observe Jesus praying and ask Him to teach them, referencing how John taught his followers.
- Jesus provides a model prayer and encourages persistent asking, seeking, and knocking.
The Disciples’ Prayer and Persistence (Luke 11:1-13)
- The Model Prayer (vv. 1-4): One disciple asks Jesus to teach them to pray. He gives this pattern: “Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.”
- Parable of the Friend at Midnight (vv. 5-8): Jesus illustrates persistence: A man asks a friend for bread at midnight for a visitor; the friend refuses at first due to inconvenience, but eventually gives because of bold persistence.
- Ask, Seek, Knock (vv. 9-10): “Ask and it will be given; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened.” Everyone who asks receives, seeks finds, knocks gets the door opened.
- God Gives Good Gifts (vv. 11-13): If earthly fathers give good gifts (not snakes for fish or scorpions for eggs), how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him.
- Purpose: Teach disciples a simple, relational prayer focused on God’s glory, daily needs, forgiveness, and protection; encourage bold, persistent prayer knowing God is a generous Father.
Application
- Pray simply and relationally, focusing on God’s name, kingdom, provision, forgiveness, and guidance; persist in asking, seeking, knocking—trusting the Father gives the best, especially the Holy Spirit.
