Introduction

We appreciated that power to respond to issues is placed in the hands of a believer using the term, ” LET US ‘ (the door is closed from inside). We also understood the dynamics of believers’ persecution by answering the following questions: What is persecution? A call to perseverance in Faith
Hebrews 10: 19-39
Audio Summary
Hebrews 10:19-39
Context
- Building on Christ’s once-for-all sacrifice and superior blood, believers have direct access to God’s presence and are called to persevere in the race toward promised rest amid persecution and temptation to shrink back.
- No external force (persecutors, circumstances) can ultimately stop the believer—only self through willful unbelief/apostasy; Jesus has run the race as model and opened the way.
- Emphasizes personal responsibility (“let us”) and community encouragement to finish strong.
Call to Persevere in Faith (Hebrews 10:19-39)
- Confidence Through Christ’s Sacrifice (vv. 19-21): We have boldness to enter Most Holy Place by Jesus’ blood—a new/living way through His flesh (curtain); great priest over God’s house.
- Three Exhortations (“Let Us”):
- Draw near to God with sincere heart, full assurance of faith, hearts sprinkled clean from evil conscience, bodies washed with pure water.
- Hold unswervingly to hope professed (God faithful to promises).
- Spur one another toward love and good deeds; do not neglect meeting together (as some do); encourage each other more as Day approaches.
- Severe Warning Against Willful Sin/Apostasy (vv. 26-31): If deliberately keep sinning after receiving truth, no sacrifice for sins remains—only fearful expectation of judgment/raging fire; worse punishment than under Moses’ law for trampling Son of God, profaning covenant blood, insulting Spirit of grace; “Vengeance is Mine… The Lord will judge His people”—dreadful to fall into living God’s hands.
- Encouragement from Past Endurance (vv. 32-39): Recall earlier days—endured suffering, public insult/persecution, stood with prisoners, joyfully accepted property confiscation knowing better/lasting possessions; do not throw away confidence (richly rewarded).
- Need for Perseverance: Persevere to do God’s will and receive promise; “In just a little while, He who is coming will come and not delay”; righteous live by faith; God takes no pleasure in those who shrink back/destroyed—we belong to those who believe and are saved.
- Purpose: Christ’s finished work empowers perseverance; reject shrinking back (willful unbelief) through mutual encouragement and steadfast faith—external persecution cannot stop those who hold firm.
Application
- Draw near boldly, hold hope firmly, meet/encourage regularly; endure suffering without shrinking back—persevere by faith to inherit promises, knowing confidence will be rewarded and Christ is coming soon.
