Removing an equal yolk of idolatry brings comfort
2 Corinthians 6: 11-7:1
Audio Summary
2 Corinthians 6:11-18
Context
- God’s purpose: manifest through healed, strengthened believers shining in darkness; separate from unbelievers to avoid their practices.
- Comfort removes pain sources and connects to right ones; unequally yoked with unbelievers (e.g., intermarriage, business) causes ongoing pain, restricting hearts.
- Believers as God’s temple must separate from unclean, welcoming God to dwell, becoming His sons/daughters.
Open Hearts and Separation (2 Corinthians 6:11-18)
- Open Hearts to Paul: Paul speaks openly to Corinthians, heart wide open; their restricted affections withhold from him, urged to open hearts like children.
- Unequal Yoking: Do not yoke with unbelievers; righteousness and wickedness, light and darkness, Christ and Belial, believer and unbeliever incompatible.
- Temple of God: Believers as temple of living God; God dwells and walks among them, being their God and they His people.
- Call to Separation: Come out from unbelievers, be separate, touch no unclean thing; God welcomes as Father, they as sons/daughters.
- Promises Fulfilled: In trouble/discomfort, God hears, helps, heals, blesses; like Paul’s thorn, grace suffices without removal.
Application
- Open hearts to spiritual fathers/mentors; separate from unequal yokes with unbelievers to welcome God’s dwelling, receiving comfort, healing, and fatherly relationship.
