2 Corinthians 4: 1-7
Audio Summary
2 Corinthians 4:1-7
Context
- Paul contrasts his New Covenant ministry with self-appointed apostles preaching old covenant; he needs no recommendation letter, as Corinthians are his living proof.
- New Covenant superior: fulfilled promises, greater glory, indwelling Spirit; false ministers use dubious means, veiling truth.
- Paul renounces secret, shameful ways, presenting truth plainly; blinded minds by god of this age prevent seeing gospel light.
Ministry of the New Covenant (2 Corinthians 4:1-7)
- Mercy Prevents Losing Heart: Having this ministry by mercy, Paul does not lose heart despite challenges.
- Renounce Deception: Renounces secret, shameful ways, distortion of God’s word; sets forth truth plainly to consciences before God.
- Veiled to Unbelievers: Gospel veiled to perishing, blinded by god of this age from seeing Christ’s light, who is God’s image.
- Preach Christ as Lord: Preach Jesus Christ as Lord, themselves as servants for Jesus’ sake; God shone light in hearts to know God’s glory in Christ’s face.
- Treasure in Jars: Treasure (gospel) in jars of clay shows surpassing power from God, not us; acknowledges weakness but divine power.
Application
- Present truth plainly without deception, preaching Christ as Lord; recognize gospel power from God in frail vessels, shining His glory.
