Understanding the great gain of godliness with contentment
Introduction
In this session, 1 Timothy 6: 6-10, 17-19, we focus on understanding the relationship between godliness with contentment within the new community. Paul wanted to develop the right worldview for his son Timothy on riches. The dangers of the love of money will be discussed.
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- Understood the need to develop the right world view of an Emerging leader by considering his relation to himself, relationship with God, his relationship with false teachers, his relationship with wealth, and his relationship with other people who have various backgrounds.
- Understood how to deal with treasure in heaven
- Reflected why Jesus and the Apostles, Paul and Peter, never condemned slavery

Group Study Time

Connecting
- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.
Comprehending
- Read 1 Timothy 6: 6-8. What is the right view of true wealth? Discuss how to balance the two pillars
- What is money? How much is enough money? What is the love of money?
- Read Math 6:19-24. What did Jesus say about treasure in heaven?
- What are the dangers of longing to be rich? 1 Timothy 6; 9-10
- What were the bible instructions on how to teach the rich in this world? 1 Timothy 6:17-19.
Committing
- Engage with the Bible—read, study, memorize, meditate, pray, listen, and live it out.
- List three lessons you have learnt as an agent of change that you would like to put into practice and teach others about.
- Take time and worship Jesus with the attributes revealed about Christ.
- Use the SPACEPETS model, to assist you in putting God’s word into practice. Look for:
- Sin to confess
- Promise to claim
- Attitude to change
- Command to keep
- Error to change
- Prayer to make
- Example to copy
- Truth to obey and
- Something praiseworthy
Communicating
- Identify one person you can connect with and share the valuable insights and lessons you gained from this session.
- Reach out to a new believer—either in person or by phone—and pray with them to support them through their challenges, including any concerns about attending church.
- Create a new group and guide others through this study to help them grow in their understanding.
